Running the society

All the things that are done by SBADS do not happen by accident: we need a team of people to provide all sorts of admin and production support behind the scenes. That’s mostly carried out by the Committee, but we are always happy to have help from all our members.
Whether it’s working out what productions to stage, liaising with the Village Hall, organising volunteers, keeping our finances shipshape, or organising social events for our members, there’s a lot to do behind the scenes. A small committee of SBADS members meets regularly to keep SBADS running as smoothly as we can, and we use the skills of our wider membership base too.
What’s involved?
The Committee meets at least once a month to discuss all SBADS’s admin functions, and we work in our free time between meetings to solve problems, develop productions and events, arrange funding and generally advance the cause of SBADS.
We have specific roles on the committee with dedicated functions, although the people who fill these roles also carry out general committee work too with the the other committee members.
- The Chair is in charge of steering the society and running our meetings.
- The Secretary takes minutes and carried out admin tasks for the society
- The Treasurer keeps our accounts in good order
- The Safeguarding Lead manages all aspects of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults during production periods
- The Communications Lead is in charge of publicity and comms
In an ideal world, we’d also have a Social Secretary to organise non-production events for our members, and a Youth Lead to run events specifically for our U18 members.
All these posts are elected at our AGMs: but not all the posts are elected every year.
What experience do you need?
None. It might help to have been involved with SBADS productions before or with other drama societies, or on other committees, but it’s not essential.

Any or all of these skills are useful:
- Ability to co-operate with others
- A collaborative mindset
- Listening skills
- A desire to make a difference
- Open-mindedness
- Planning and time management
- Problem solving
- People skills
How do I get involved?
If you are not already a member, you can contact us to let us know that you are interested. If you’d like to chat to someone who’s already involved in this part of productions, let us know, and we’ll put you in touch.
If you are a member, then please make sure that your interest in this area is included on your membership records. If you want to update your membership records, then please fill in the membership form.
