Publicity & Comms

Spreading the word about our shows is really important to make sure that our hard work is seen by an audience, and our team works both on-line and in print to tell everyone about SBADS.

What’s involved?

Every production, and most events, need a suite of printed materials to be created, including posters, banners, programmes, along with digital artwork for websites and social media. It all has to be distributed too: on this website and third party sites, by e-mail, and physically stuck up on the district’s lampposts. We draft and distribute press releases and  photos. We also keep our members informed about what’s going on, and pass on details of other shows that may be of interest. There’s this website to maintain, and mailing lists to manage.

Typical tasks include:

  • Drawing up artwork concepts and developing them to finished standard
  • Designing posters, banners and digital graphics
  • Posting to social media
  • Typesetting programmes
  • Ordering printed materials
  • Writing press releases and copy
  • Managing mailing lists
  • Drafting newsletters and e-mails
  • Putting up posters and banners

What experience do you need?

None: but previous experience in similar roles is definitely useful; absolutely no experience is required to put up posters.

What skills do you need?

It’s really important to know that we don’t require experts – though they are always welcome! If you have the ability to create neat-looking and eye-catching materials, write clear text or build/update websites, or persuade newspapers to print nice things about us, then you have the sorts of skills we can use.

Any or all of these skills are useful:

  • A good standard of English
  • Attention to detail
  • Social media skills
  • Drawing and painting
  • Typesetting and layout to a high standard
  • Preparing materials for professional print
  • Building and/or maintaining websites (including WordPress)
  • Database management
  • Press and comms management
