Front of House

Our front of house team are the welcoming face of SBADS, but they are much more than ushers: they are a key part of keeping the audience safe.

Every performance requires a large team of people to make sure that the audience are welcomed, seated and refreshed: and safely evacuated if necessary. It’s a rewarding set of jobs, and great for people who would like to be involved but don’t want to go anywhere near the stage!

What’s involved?

The front of house team get the Village Hall ready for the audience, check tickets, sell drinks and snacks, run the raffle and generally provide a smooth and enjoyable experience for our audience whenever the ‘house’ lights are on.

Typical tasks are:

  • Setting out chairs and programmes
  • Staffing the entrance doors, greeting guests, checking tickets and directing visitors to their seats
  • Finding lost bookings
  • Serving hot drinks and serving at the bar
  • Washing up
  • Shepherding the audience out
  • Instructing and helping the audience in case of emergency

What experience do you need?

No experience required, though some experience of dealing with the public is useful.

What skills do you need?

Front of house requires similar skills to any hospitality role that involves dealing with the public in a warm and friendly manner. There are also ‘back of house’ roles such as helping in the kitchen for people who don’t want to face the public. First aid is a useful skill to have – though one we hope that you wouldn’t need to employ.
