Behaviour codes for children and young people

South Brent Amateur Dramatic Society (SBADS) requires that all its members treat each other with common courtesy and respect.

Times of arrival and collection of children by parents/guardians

SBADS sets a schedule for all rehearsals and performances stating the start time and expected end time.

We expect members to arrive no later than the start time so that sessions can begin promptly, but ask that children are brought to each session as close as possible to the start time so that they are not kept waiting for extended periods.

Children should not be left to wait unattended if they are brought to a rehearsal before the venue is unlocked or before the SBADS production team has arrived.

We always try to finish on time, and parents/guardians should expect to collect their children at the stated time. However, there will be times when delays occur, such as when a rehearsal cannot be broken off in the middle of a scene, so we ask for parents’/guardians’ understanding if this occurs.

If a child cannot attend a full rehearsal, and must arrive late or leave early, SBADS must be informed of this by the parent/guardian. We will not release a child early at their own request, unless we are able to confirm this with a parent/guardian.

Dress code

SBADS members must wear clothing that is appropriate for the age of the member and the activity being carried out. Clothing should be suitably warm and robust, and should not be revealing, provocative or dirty, or contain words or images that may cause offence.

Closed shoes should be worn, and shoes with high heels or metal studs on the soles are not permitted to prevent damage and/or injury.

Language

SBADS members must use the kind of language that would be appropriate in a public place, and not use bad language, including swearing, racially offensive terms or words that may be expected to offend any particular group of people.

Conduct

SBADS members should always:

  • Treat other members with respect
  • Look out for themselves and the welfare of others
  • Do their best
  • Be organised and on time, tell someone if you are leaving a rehearsal or performance venue
  • Respect other SBADS members, even when things go wrong
  • Behave in a manner that avoids bringing SBADS into disrepute
  • Talk to an adult member of the production team if they have any problems

SBADS members should never:

  • Use violence or engage in irresponsible, abusive, inappropriate or illegal behaviour
  • Shout or argue with other members
  • Harm other members, or their property
  • Use bullying tactics to isolate another member
  • Take banned substances, drink alcohol, smoke or engage in inappropriate behaviour
  • Keep secrets, that may leave themselves or others at risk
  • Tell lies about other members, or spread rumours

Discriminate against other members on the basis of gender, appearance, age, ability, religion or belief, gender identity, disability, social and ethnic background or political persuasion.
