Youth Theatre Workshop

SBADS is delighted to be working with Jonathan Mason to develop a theatre project for young people aged 11-18, to culminate in a show chosen by the participants and performed on 11 October.

Initial meeting on Saturday 7 June, 10am

There will be an initial meeting and workshop for anyone aged 11-18 to develop ideas on Saturday 7 June, 10am to midday, at South Brent Village Hall. It’s principally intended for young people from South Brent and the surrounding area. There is no need to book in advance, but if you would like to let us know who be coming – or if anyone is interested but can’t come – please e-mail info@sbads.show.

What’s the plan?

At the initial workshop Jonathan will be facilitating some fun and relaxed drama games, word games and role-play. The initial meeting is also an opportunity to get to know each other and to explore possible ways to create a performance.

The final performance may be a piece devised by the group, a suitable, short scripted play, or even a combination of the two: it will be up to the group! The young people involved will have ownership of this process and this piece and Jonathan will do his best to make it the great show it’s going to be!

About Jonathan Mason

Jonathan has worked as a Drama and English teacher for the last 30 years. He has been Head of Department at KEVICC, as well as working at a number of schools both locally and in Australia. He has acted professionally and taught full-time, but now appreciates the freedoms of working as a supply teacher and part-time English tutor for Young Devon. He also participates in plenty of local amateur dramatics, including playing the lead in the Dartington Playgoers Summer production (2024) of Jez Butterworth’s “Jerusalem”.
