Auditions for “The Snow Queen” Panto 6 September
It’s already time to think about our next panto – oh, yes it is! Everyone is invited to be involved in our show for January 2027.
South Brent Amateur Dramatic Society warmly invites you to come along to our friendly auditions by informal read-through on 6 September at South Brent Village Hall.
No experience required and non-members are welcome to audition: the cast is varied across ages and genders, plus there are opportunities for those who wish to be involved but not act!
The Snow Queen – January 2027
- Auditions on Sunday, 6 September at South Brent Village Hall
- Junior cast (ages 8 – 15) auditions 3 – 4.30 pm
- Adult cast (ages 16+) auditions 5 – 7.30 pm
- Pantomime by Alan P Frayn
- Roles for all ages 8+
- Production dates 20 – 23 January 2027.
- Rehearsals Sundays 5 – 8 pm.
A script written by Somerset based author Alan P Frayn will be directed by Bridie Kennerley and produced by Poppy Morgan. This classic tale will contain all the usual elements of panto, so if you want to join in the fun and magic either on or off stage come along to the auditions on Sunday 6 September at South Brent Village Hall.
There are characters for men, women and children of all ages and plenty of opportunities to help out back stage before and during the performances. Come and have a go – no experience needed.
Principal roles
Gran
Granny Fanny-Annie – typical pantomime Dame character. Her first entrance is with a zimmer frame, but this is only a pretence – as we will see, she is actually much younger and fitter than she makes out. (Obviously, best played by a man)
Gerda
The Dame’s granddaughter – her playing age is mid-teens, but being pantomime, there is plenty of licence for this part to be played by a young adult. Unless a youth theatre or school production, she is definitely not a young child. (Principal Girl)
Kai
Gerda’s best friend – a similar age to Gerda, so the above comments also apply. (pronounced: “Kye”) (Probably male, but could be played by female as Principal Boy)
Helmut
Gerda’s daft cousin, so another of the Dame’s grandchildren – the “Simple Simon” of the piece. A similar age to Gerda, so the same comments also apply. (Male)
Hans
Hans Christian Andersen – a tall, dark haired, middle-aged Danish writer. (Male)
The Snow Queen
The Winter Witch – a “glamorous baddie”, well versed in the art of black magic. Strikingly attractive, but with evil intent and a heart of ice, she is dressed in flowing white, with a pale complexion and silver or blue lipstick. (Female)
Snowdrop
The Spirit of Spring – typical good fairy role. She has a posy of small artificial flowers with a tall one protruding from the middle and uses this as her “wand”. (Female)
Blossom
The Spring Flower Lady – a bit wacky, but kind-hearted. She wears a frilly costume and a straw boater, dressed with flowers and ivy. (Female)
Henrik
The Snow Queen’s henchman and general dogsbody – he drags one leg behind him as he walks. (Probably male, but could be played by female)
Smaller roles
(Probably joining the Chorus in scenes where not featured)
- Caw: The Raven. (Male or female)
- Ziggy: A comical “spaced-out” hippy (Male)
- Sunbeam: The Hippy Princess (Female)
- Frederika: The so-called “Little Robber Girl” (Female)
- Rufus: A tongue-in-cheek, well-spoken reindeer (Male but could be played by female)
- Old Lapp Lady: An elderly, traditionally dressed Laplander – kind-hearted and wise. (Female)
- Konrad: A sweet shop customer. (Male)
- Olaf: A fisherman. (Male, but could be female if re-named)
- Precious: The male Sunflower (Male)
- Robber Chief: Frederika’s boss. (Ideally male, but could be female)
- 2 Trolls: Henrik’s assistants
