Jim Paton
21 February 1952 — 19 March 2023
SBADS is sad to have learned of the passing of Jim Paton on 19 March 2023. He was an active member of SBADS as part of the set design and construction crew for at least 10 years before ill health forced him to stop.
Jim was involved in at least 11 productions, including “Dancing at Lughnasa” for which he and the crew won the Visuals Award for best set design at the South West Drama Federation in 2013.
As many of you may know, Jim was an ex Royal Marine Bandsman, and was an extremely accomplished musician playing a plethora of instruments, but mostly specialising in saxaphone and clarinet. He was also highly skilled in ‘blowing his own trumpet’, as his brother recalls!
Jim was also a member of the Dartmouth Royal Navy Volunteer Band for a number of years, and performed at many concerts up and down the country.
Latterly, he didn’t enjoy good health, but was often seen outside Station House enjoying a pint and chatting to any passers-by.
There will be no funeral service, and his ashes will be interned at a later date at a private family ceremony.
